Superior hygienic design

Alfa Laval diaphragm valves is the natural choice for the pharma and biotech industries. However the diaphragm valve offers solutions for all hygienic industries. The diaphragm valve is also an obvious choice in aseptic, hygienic and utility systems within the dairy, beverage and food industries for duties such as dosing, filling, diverting and controlling.

The Alfa Laval Unique DV-ST UltraPure range consistently delivers documented, reliable, and contaminant-free aseptic performance.

High-quality valve bodies

Low delta-ferrite content valve bodies with specified sulphur content are standard for all forged and block valves.

  • Cast bodies are made from high-precision investment casting with low delta-ferrite content.
  • Two-way valves, including the ferrules for clamp end bodies, are made from a single piece of metal.
  • T- and Tank-outlet valves are available either machined from block or forged and welded.

The forged and welded valve bodies offer an economical lightweight alternative, which makes easy installation and efficient steam sterilization possible.

Wide range of well proven diaphragms

Alfa Laval’s broad range of well documented pharmaceutical grade diaphragms meet the requirements of FDA and USP classifications as well as TSE/ADI declarations. A high performance EPDM diaphragm for continuous steam operation at temperatures up to 150 °C extends the lifetime of valves used in more demanding process environments.

Simple and reliable actuator design

The stainless steel actuator provides a one type fits all on the complete range of Alfa Laval Unique DV-ST diaphragm valves making selections safe, fast and easy.

The actuator is designed to operate up against 10 and 6 bar working pressures depending on diaphragm material (6 bar for TFM/PTFE and 10 bar for EPDM and PTFE/EPDM). This further means it’s a durable actuator that also can close against the same working pressures (0% pressure drop).

The Alfa Laval designed stainless steel actuator is compatible to heat (autoclave) and chemicals providing long life time and performance minimizing errors and increasing uptime.

Over-closure protection for all handles used for manual operation ensures a defined closure pressure against the diaphragm and prolongs diaphragm lifetime as well. All steel parts are made of stainless steel steel or Composite material depending on handle type selected.

Modular valve design

Create exactly the configuration you require. The Unique DV-ST UltraPure is constructed from a series of base parts that enables you to easily adapt the valve to the individual needs of a wide range of applications. See Documentation and How it works.

Radial Diaphragm Valve UltraPureRadial Diaphragm Valve UltraPure

This compact, maintenance friendly radial diaphragm valve with its double-sealing system provides true aseptic conditions for sterile applications where leakage, deadlegs or cross-contamination is unacceptable.

Related Industries:

Biotech and Pharmaceuticals, Energy and Utilities, Food and beverage, Home and Personal Care

A true aseptic radial diaphragm valve

The Alfa Laval Radial Diaphragm Valve UltraPure is a one-piece diaphragm sealing system that delivers reliable, contaminant-free performance. Features that contribute to its superior hygienic design include:

  • Pocket-free design without dome, sump or deadleg
  • Flow optimized design with wide radius for fast Cleaning-in-Place and Sterilization-in-Place (CIP/SIP)
  • Single-seat valve technology with stem shielded behind the diaphragm so it does not travel in and out of the product chamber

Flexible aseptic valve installation

With its compact footprint and straightforward seat-valve design, the Alfa Laval Radial Diaphragm Valve UltraPure is easy to install. Unlike Weir-type valves, our radial diaphragm valve does not require a critical installation angle to eliminate dead legs. Fewer bends and weldings reduce the cost of materials, labour, and associated documentation.

Assembly is easy using a standard clamp. No tools are required for assembly, re-tightening or adjustment. Plus there are no loose screws, bolts or nuts so diaphragm replacement, when required, takes just a few seconds. This significantly reduces downtime and maintenance costs.

High flow rate, high product recovery rate

Engineered for use in biotech, pharmaceutical and aseptic food industries, the Alfa Laval Radial Diaphragm Valve UltraPure provides a high flow rate despite its compact size and small actuator. This flow-optimized design contributes to quick and easy cleaning using CIP/SIP systems.

With its self-draining design, the Alfa Laval Radial Diaphragm Valve provides full drainability with superior Kv (Cv)values. This contributes to high product recovery and increased profitability.

Standard radial diaphragm valve design

Designed for use as a shut-off valve, pass-through valve or a tank outlet valve, the Alfa Laval Radial Diaphragm Valve UltraPure can operate in manual mode or in automatic mode when equipped with a pneumatic actuator. Available in silicone and EPDM, our diaphragms meet the requirements of FDA and USP class VI classifications as well as TSE/ADI declarations. Standard welding or clamp ends are available in ø12.7 mm, ø25.4 mm and ø38 mm dimensions.

Construction

The RDV-UP is a single-seat valve with the stem protected behind a silicone or EPDM diaphragm. The diaphragm has a true aseptic double-sealing system that protects the product from external contamination. The diaphragm protects the stem so that the stem does not travel inside the product chamber, thereby eliminating the risk of contamination being dragged into the product chamber.

Operating principle

The Alfa Laval Radial Diaphragm Valve UltraPure (RDV-UP) range is designed either for manual operation or for automatic operation.

Manual operation

For manual operation, the RDV-UP is controlled by means of a handle. A simple turn of the handle pushes the stem downwards with the diaphragm, pressing it against the seat of the valve body and thereby closing the valve.

The handle is fitted onto the valve by means of a clamp.

Automatic operation

The RDV-UP can be controlled from remote location by means of compressed air using a pneumatic actuator. The actuator controls the axial movement of a piston, thereby opening or closing the valve depending on the actuator function.

The actuator is available in two standard versions: normally closed (NC) and air/air activated (A/A). The actuator is fitted on to the valve by means of a clamp.

With its innovative design, the Diaphragm Valve – Premium provides more precise flow regulation and gives double the flow rate of conventional diaphragm valve designs.

Lower diaphragm valve costs

The Diaphragm Valve – Premium minimizes total cost of ownership for diaphragm valves. It cuts energy costs because the higher flow rate and lower pressure drop enable the use of smaller feed pumps, which require less electricity to operate. Calculate the potential  savings with the Alfa Laval Energy Savings Calculator.

Installation costs are also lower than conventional diaphragm valves due to the use of smaller pumps, valves and piping. Further savings are achieved thanks to the extended lifetime of the diaphragm, which results in longer service intervals.

Safe, easy-to-service diaphragm valve

A single-thread tightening mechanism on the valve makes installation and maintenance quicker, easier and safer than conventional diaphragm valves. No cross tightening or re-tightening is required, which eliminates the risk of human error.

Defined and uniform compression also contributes to safer operation and longer diaphragm lifetime. The mechanism’s built-in click and positioning system secures correct fastening every time.
