Our EnSaFoil impellers, as well as our particularly designed EnSaFerm impellers for fermentation applications, reduce energy usage and heat absorption by your product. Based on rigorous fluid dynamic studies, their distinctive design allows them to be up to 400% more efficient than regular pitch impellers. Aside from lowering energy loss, our impellers function at lower speeds without sacrificing pumping capacity. When compared to agitators with traditional impellers, they reduce agitator power usage by up to 80%.
When it comes to a variety of mixing and blending tasks in processing tanks, Alfa Laval agitators guarantee top-notch sanitation. Agitator systems can be easily customized to match the unique needs of each tank and process thanks to its modular design and use of sanitary materials with smooth surfaces. These materials adhere to a variety of standards, including those set out by EHEDG, USDA, FDA, and 3-A.
Alfa Laval agitators are characterized by low wear and little maintenance, which translates into increased output due to reduced downtime. Long-life seals and bearings may be replaced without removing or entering the tank, saving both time and money.
Four different Alfa Laval agitator models for top-, bottom- and side-mounting are available for installation in pressurized and non-pressurized tanks. Sterile/aseptic and ATEX-certified versions are available upon request.

Standard propeller diameter range: ø125 mm to 1900 mm. Specific dimensions on the drive unit and propeller(s) will depend on the actual configuration selected.
Based on a modular design, Alfa Laval agitators consist of a drive unit with bearing frame, shaft with special shaft seal arrangement, and bi- or tri-lobe energy-saving airfoil impellers.
An electrical motor (drive unit) transfers the energy required for mixing and blending to the agitator shaft, either directly or through a gearbox. The shaft rotates, propelling the specifically designed Energy Saving Foil impellers. The impeller movement produces a high flow with little shear because of the extremely effective axial pumping impact on the liquid in the tank. This results in a thorough mixing and blending of the tank’s contents.
Alfa Laval also provides agitator types for sterile/aseptic applications, as well as optional equipment such as welding flanges, blind flanges, motor/gear covers, and spare part kits for its agitator line.

The Alfa Laval ALTB top-mounted agitator is available in a variety of sizes to fit both atmospheric and pressurised tanks. The inclusion of a bottom support stabilises the shaft and assures its consistent operation. You can expect excellent power usage because to the wide range of size possibilities. ALTB agitators are designed for simple CIP and can be adjusted for usage in sterile/aseptic environments.
We provide variants for sterile/aseptic applications as well as optional equipment for all ALTB top-mounted agitators, such as a welding flange, a blind flange, a motor/gear cover, and a replacement parts package. Material certificates are available upon request.
Our top-mounted agitator with bottom support ALTB provides the same solutions as the ALT but with greater mechanical freedom. Depending on the size of the agitator, a bottom support may yield a more cost-effective solution. The Alfa Laval bottom support is designed to be sanitary and easy to clean.

Both our EnSaFoil impellers and our custom made EnSaFerm impellers for fermentation use less energy and keep your product from absorbing heat. Their unique shape, which is based on a lot of research into fluid dynamics, makes them up to 400% more efficient than impellers with a normal pitch. Our impellers work at slower speeds without losing any pushing power, which is another way they save energy. So, they lower the power needed by agitators by up to 80% compared to agitators with regular impellers.
Alfa Laval agitators keep things very clean and can be used for a lot of different blending and mixing tasks in processing tanks. Because they are made of clean, modular parts with smooth surfaces, stirrer systems can be easily changed to fit different tank and process needs, such as those set by EHEDG, USDA, FDA, and 3-A.
Alfa Laval agitators are known for having low wear and little upkeep. This means more work gets done because there is less break. For example, long-life seals and joints can be replaced without taking the tank apart or going inside it. It saves time and money this way.
Based on a modular design, Alfa Laval agitators consist of a drive unit with bearing frame, shaft with special shaft seal arrangement, and bi- or tri-lobe energy-saving airfoil impellers.
An electrical motor (drive unit) transmits the energy required for mixing and blending, either directly or via a gearbox, to the agitator shaft. The shaft rotates, turning the specially designed Energy Saving Foil impellers. The impeller movement creates a high flow with low shear due to the highly effective axial pumping effect on the liquid in the tank. This results in effective mixing and blending of the entire contents of the tank.
Alfa Laval also offers agitator models for sterile/aseptic applications and optional equipment, including welding flange, blind flange, cover for motor/gear and spare part kit, for its range of agitators.
The Alfa Laval range of top mounted propeller agitators with bottom steady bearing is designed to meet almost every customer requirement. Type ALTB agitators are characterised by having a shaft support inside the tank called a bottom steady bearing. Standard type ALTB agitators are less costly than agitators without internal shaft support. Due to their modular build, the agitators can be designed to suit every kind of application within hygienic industry. The modular construction is designed with the aim to meet both European and American standards and regulations, such as EHEDG, USDA, FDA, 3A etc.
Please note that Alfa Laval also offer other agitator solutions:
– Type ALT, top mounted agitators
– Type ALS, side mounted agitators
– Type ALB, bottom mounted agitators
For more information please see separate Product Data Sheets.
Configurable design
Type ALTB agitator design is fully configurable divided in the following
elements:
– Drives (drive + shaft support + shaft diameter)
– Seal arrangements (oil trap + shaft seal type)
– Shaft (length)
– Energy Saving Foils (propeller type + surface finish)
– Bottom steady bearings (type + surface finish)
– Options
Each element has a broad range of different characteristics which make it possible to size the agitator for all applications and requirements. Type ALTB configuration, please see next page.
